Lotus Paper Project

Our newest Lotus Origami incarnation created by Brenda Lilly with the six-syllables of the Mani mantra written on the six petals with the HRIH in the center.

The Lotus is an important symbol through out all the Buddhist lineages. We will be exploring the many facets of this precious symbol of enlightened perfection and goodness which we all possess.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you.

In dreams
they come with out-stretched hands
the color of malachite

giving, magnetizing
palms formed by leaf and wind,
torrential waters--

As they pass to me the lotus bud
grown up from mud
its stainless bloom
opening

Our Lotus Origami Project currently on exhibit in the historic Marshall Fields Library in Conway with hundreds of  blossoms made by our dedicated origami club under the direction of Brenda Lilly, a resident of Conway. Each blossom represents a unique manifestation of its maker.

Every Saturday from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM in the Conway Marshall Fields Library we made Lotus origami to add to our collection which were used to distribute to the public in the June 18, 2017 parade following our performing Khaita dancers in the parade.

Distributing origami symbols of peace and harmony during parades is a tradition among New England towns, most commonly the Japanese crane. In Buddhist cultures including Tibet,  the Lotus has deep meaning as a symbol of perfection which all beings inherently possess as a potential for enlightenment. By handing these out, we are acknowledging this potential.

Here's a charming video of our Khaita Dancers and Khandroling Paper Cooperative Lotus bearers handing out Lotuses during the 250th Anniversary of the town of Conway. Many thanks to all who organized and planned this event. Special thanks to Brenda Lilly, Aimee Anderson, Amanda Pollock and all the past and present Lotus makers. We couldn't have done it without you!
