Five Elements Paper and Lots of News Beyond

For the last month or so I have been collecting and  preparing colored linen to make pulp in the ‘Critter' to represent the five elements for our 30th Anniversary Celebration at Tsegyalgar East.  Thus far I have made Red, White and Blue pulp. Now working on the final yellow and green.

Speaking of the  Elements, Sheryl Jaffe, our KPC instructor extraordinaire was interviewed for  PREVIEWMASS . You can find the article Earth, Air, Light and Water on page 10. Her August workshop  scheduled to take place at Khandroling Farm is listed in the article.

Sheryl was at the Tsegyalgar East booth yesterday in the WGBH Asparagus Festival making paper with passers by. She attracted young and old introducing them to the magic of papermaking with local fibers. She brought asparagus pulp cooked and beaten for many hours which translated into amazing beautiful and string paper. The community also did demos of Yantra Yoga, Vajra Dance, and modern Tibetan Dance next to our booth.

Brenda Lilly, origami artist and papermaker stopped by to visit the booth and try her hand with the asparagus pulp. Later in the summer Brenda will be teaching a Butterfly origami workshop after returning from the International Origami convention.

I made a large basket of multicolored “seeded” papers embedding wildflowers, larkspur, poppies and cosmos in a variety of pulp and asparagus too.

Inside the tent Bret (secretary of SSI and Leela Whitcomb coordinated music on Bret’s computer for the modern Tibetan dance demo.

WGBH filmed the entire festival event. Tsegalgar was featured in the slide show showing our Vajra Dance demo.
